We were lucky enough to get an invite to the Hoboken Taco Truck’s Manager Takeover on Monday – where the managers and owners took over the store, cleaned it from top to bottom, and gave their staff a day off (and gave them free food made to order).

Talk about a morale boost for your staff!

Taco Truck Manager Takeover Day!

Now I’ve eaten at a lot of Mexican (authentic and inspired) restaurants, but I was very impressed with the food here. It was extremely flavorful and fresh — I termed it “a gourmet spin on fast food,” but it’s really not fast food…it’s better than that. I just say fast because the service is fast. Quick food, perhaps? Anyway, you get the idea.

TTT’s easy to read chalkboard menu:

I decided to go vegetarian with my dinner, and since my diet has changed a lot recently (no longer eating gluten or dairy), ordered this platter:

Agucate Tostado Tacos – fried avocado, black beans, sesame seeds,
pickled onions and tortillas fritas with chipotle salsa. Hot and spicy – just how I like it. And fried avocado? So so good. Tacos were served in two corn tortillas, which were nearly as soft as flour. Mmm. And gluten free!

Esquites – corn kernels, mayonnaise, queso Cotija, chile de arbol and
epazote in lime broth. Super spicy and delicious! They held the mayo & butter because of my dairy restrictions. I loved that TTT was so adaptable to my palate and diet. I enjoy spicy hot foods, but they also can tone down the spices if you’re not as into it.

Although there are many places to grab a taco in Hoboken, this adorable and convenient locale is across the street from the PATH. The Taco Truck is open late (2am on weekends!) and has a cozy, fun-filled vibe. It’s also BYOB. Major plus.

Their eco-friendly vibe (metal spoons, re-usable cups, plates, and a compost/recycle/garbage disposal area) makes me quite happy as well:

If you are in or around Hoboken, definitely check out The Taco Truck at 62 Newark Street in Hoboken. They also have several food trucks (which is how the company started) that are stationed in parts of NYC, Hoboken, and Jersey City. Word on the street is they’re expanding to the ‘burbs of NJ and Boston too! Loves it.

Have you ever been to The Taco Truck? How did you like it?
