The Friday Five: 5 Ways to Shape Up for Spring

It’s been a while since the Friday Five, but since the weather’s been nice – it’s time! As always, the Fri Five is a mish-mosh of randomness, sometimes personal, sometimes Hoboken-centric.

Today I’m sharing some tidbits of how to get ready for your spring shape-up…if you haven’t started already. Some are obvious – some might be new/helpful. After all, Memorial Day Weekend waits for no one.

1. Get a Trainer.

It’s not magic – you need to exercise. Womp womp, I know. I love my trainer, Kristin Reisinger, of Iron Plate Studios in the Monroe Center (720 Monroe Street). She’s amazing and I highly recommend her! More about her diet and training tips and packages here.

2. Or, at least Join a Gym.

I highly recommend Work It Outa fitness boutique – for their fitness classes. Local Barre is also great. What’s more –there’s Crossfit, CKO Kickboxing, Sky Club Fitness (which has a pool…), the list goes on. If money is the problem, join Planet Fitness. It’s $10 measly dollars a month.

3. Plan Your Meals and Go Food Shopping.

I love the websites myhealthydish.com and extremelyfit.com for great (and healthy) recipes. It’s not easy or feasible for a busy person to be making food every night, so I’d recommend shopping, planning your meals, and making food on Sundays for the week if possible. It always helps to plan ahead so you don’t get stuck with unhealthy options. As humans, life happens & eating out happens, so we can’t always stick to that schedule – but it’s great to be able to try to plan ahead as much as possible.

4. Get a Spray Tan.

Sounds silly – but I just got 2 fabulous spray tans (one from the Versa Machine at Planet Sun on 14th Street & an airbrush tan from Erica of EC Beauty Studio) and they really made me feel great. There’s nothing like a little bronze that puts a little pep in your step and makes you feel like wearing a skirt or short sleeves, I’d say. Or at least makes you want to put on your gym shorts to go work out a bit. Add a manicure/pedicure and you’re pretty much ready for anything…including a trip to the tropics.

5. Try a Juice Cleanse.

I happen to love the Blue Print Cleanse – which I do once in a while to get me back to healthy eating. Trust me, by the end of it, celery will be tasting like chocolate to you. If you can’t invest in that kind of commitment (it’s about $200 for the 3 days of Blue Print), make sure you fill your diet with fruits, veggies, and lots of water. It works about the same…but isn’t as easy and fun!

Remember – a spring shape up isn’t instantaneous. You have to work at it! It’s not easy, especially when it’s cold out or early in the morning as you’re headed to the gym. However, if you put your mind to it, you can do it! I’ll leave you with a quote:

no matter how slow you go
