Recently I went with a large group to the Hudson Tavern to celebrate a friend’s engagement–all the way uptown on 14th street (51 14th Street) to be exact. I had actually been to HT for a late afternoon Hoboken St. Patty’s “nightcap” around 4pm, but had never actually eaten there…figured it was time!
With a party of 7, we had a lot of dishes and taste testing to go around, which made it lots of fun. Hudson Tavern is definitely a great All-American-bar-food-and-dinner type of place.
Here were some of our dishes:

Pan Seared Diver Sea Scallops – so good.

Chicken Cutlet with Mashed Potatoes

Turkey Burger with Sweet Potato Fries

Mussels!

Chicken Sandwich

Hudson Tavern Salad + Shrimp. This was mine.

Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Wine…duh.
I taste tested the scallops (mmMmm!) as well as well as a bite or two of the sweet potato fries…besides diving into my own salad + shrimp. There were also chicken kebobs and corn bread (not pictured). Everything was super tasty, and everyone enjoyed their food from what I noticed. The food was good, prices were reasonable, and portion sizes were good -two things I’ll note (and it may just be the specific day we were there) the service was a bit slow and the ambiance was almost too dark. I could barely see my friends (but then again, we had several bottles of wine on the table…so there are a couple of reasons that could be the case). Though it was a Saturday, it wasn’t too crowded, so we were lucky with a bigger party to be able to take up a good portion of the place.
The Hudson Tavern is definitely a good spot to grab a beer or two with friends or a meal. There are lots of dish options, including for gluten-free and vegetarian (plus lots of fish dishes) — so absolutely fitting for a variety of taste buds. The excellent part is that it is casual, unpretentious, and definitely feels like a place you can relax and hang with friends…which is exactly what we did!
Have you been to the Hudson Tavern? What was your experience like?
